I am writing this as a grandmother for my precious grandchildren to enjoy. Participants will be learning about not only master artists, but great works of literature as well. They will have the opportunity to be original and creative and at the same time experience getting together with a small group of family and friends and enjoying polite and civil conversation that they are a part of. All will learn about fun and important works of art, literature, and music.
Topics include the famous female artists Mary Cassatt and Jesse Wilcox Smith, African American artists Henry Tanner and Horace Pippin, and a wonderful tea party focused on China. In Monet’s Art Garden Party, children learn about painting a Monet picture, make a creative comic picture of an insect, and create a garden environment for the flowers and paint flowers to the Tchaikovsky’s – “Waltz of the Flowers.” In the Rousseau party they get to hear the original Tarzan call, do a monkey mask, paint a tiger hiding in the jungle and much more.
Each party contains optional websites that add to the lesson. You can even go to a link where you can watch a portion of the old movie “Singing in the Rain” before you create your art.
This is appropriate for ages 6 through high school. Projects can be modified for older and younger students. Boys and girls would enjoy this book, and may I suggest that grandmothers and fathers host the parties.
This is a great opportunity for family or school learning and can even be done virtually. You can even have a special hat and clothing everyone can wear at teatime.
Let’s bring teatime back and have a spot of tea!
