Swans are a fascinating topic that you can use for a wonderful unit study in music, art and literature.  In literature you have the wonderful story of "The Ugly Duckling."  You also have a fabulous poem about swans by Yeats.  In music we talk about the ballet "Swan Lake" and see a video of it and learn how to draw a ballerina and basic principles of proportion.  Links are included to Disney's rendition of hippos doing "Swan Lake" and some other links add to the fun.    In art, we see Audubon's swan picture and also several other master works and learn about atmospheric perspective.  This is a multi-level lesson the whole family would enjoy.  There is even a drawing lesson for wee little ones on drawing a swan.
